PARK ROYAL SEATING ARCHIVE

Field observation 2023-Present

Having lived in North Acton for years, I have spent a lot of time walking around Park Royal. Over time, I became drawn to the chairs scattered throughout the area.

Placed outside factories, along streets, and at the edges of working spaces, they seemed casually positioned at first glance. Yet the more I looked, the more they appeared to carry traces of habit and routine. Through their placement and arrangement, I found myself quietly imagining the everyday lives of the people who used them.

Some chairs face the street, some gather in small groups, while others remain alone in the same corner. They seem to hold moments in between work — a short break, a conversation, a cigarette, or simply a pause to breathe.

What interests me is not the work itself, but the quieter moments surrounding it. These chairs became more than places to sit; they became small shelters within the rhythm of labour.

Through repeated walks and observations, they gradually became one of the landscapes that define Park Royal for me.
